How to Organize Your Closet Shelves

I have spent the weekend arranging my new apartment. When I got to my closet this morning I was a little unnerved by how disorganized it was. I took a quick trip to pick up some supplies and in about an hour my closet shelves were transformed.

Closet decluttering before and after

Here is the cost breakdown for this project:

Lingo boxes from IKEA (2-pack) for workout clothes and PJs - $5.99

Nostalglisk boxes w/ lids from IKEA (2-pack) for socks and undies - $11.99

Wire rack from Bed Bath and Beyond for shoes - $6.99

This rack is for kitchen storage, but I can fit 3 pairs of shoes on it and 3 pairs under it. The rack didn’t take up the entire shelf, that gave me room on the side for my tall boots.

Nails for hanging baseball hats - $0.00 (I found them when I moved in.)

Total cost - $ 27.03 with tax

I was able to give my stuff a home for a little over $25. This project was well worth the cost because I feel less overwhelmed by clutter. I know where everything belongs and where to find something when I need it. What a big relief.

UPDATE:

One of my guy friends asked me if IKEA has more masculine boxes that he can use in his closet. The answer is yes. The Nostalglisk boxes come in a chocolate color, but this is about as masculine as the Lingo boxes get:
