Furniture Rehab: Coffee Table Edition

I bought a new sofa with my income tax return and I really wanted a new coffee table, but I didn’t have the budget for it. My solution was to rehab my current coffee table so that it looked better with my new modern sofa.

I took this Leksvik coffee table from IKEA:

1) Sanded it

2) Wiped it down with a damp cloth

3) Primed it

4) Added three coats of black paint

This is the result:

I think it fits in with my ‘minimal chic’ decor.

I spent $30 on primer and paint which is 10% of the $300 I wanted to spend on the other coffee table.

This is the first time I have tried to paint furniture. If I had to do it over again, I don’t think I would have primed the wood. The paint didn’t want to adhere to the primer making it a three coat paint job.

I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but I really like it. I’m ready for my next furniture rehab.

It looks GREAT! I’m very impressed. Want to come over and paint our apartment now? :D

I’m with Gillian — whenever you’re ready, feel free to come on over. Our first (and only) paint job involved cheap spraw paint on Walmart melamine… it wasn’t pretty at all.

    Looks great!

@Gillian - Thanks, it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would.

@Naomi - thanks for the comment. I really like your website.
