Unitasker Roundup

I have never understood the need for most of the specialty appliances I see in the store. They are clunky and take up space in cabinets or on the counter. They aren’t that easy to clean either. You can get the same results by simply cooking on the stove with a pot or pan.

Here are a few of my least favorite unitaskers in the specialty appliance category:

1) The Egg Cooker

2) The Rice Cooker

3) The Panini Press:

Everyone I know that has purchased or registered for one of these items has rarely used them. They become one more thing cluttering up the kitchen.

Here are the multitaskers I recommend:

1) A pot to cook eggs and rice

2) A stove top grill for the panini

I love the Le Creuset square skillet grill. I use it to make the occasional panini, but most often I use it to grill steak, chicken and vegetables.

Simple gear is the way to go in the kitchen. There is no reason to clutter your space with unitaskers unless there is no multipurpose alternative and you are sure you will use them frequently.

What’s inside the egg cooker? 4 egg sized holes?

OK, but if you’re asian, the rice cooker is a required appliance!

@ Nathan - No, it holds 7-8 eggs.
@ Garrett - I agree, if you use it frequently then you should have one.
